The Story of Martin Luther

Time Out (Temps Mort)

Perhaps due to my own certain age, I tend to particularly enjoy the shorts when an older person outwits or non-plusses the Grim Reaper. It’s not an uncommon story, there are a few laying around the crow’s nest here already, and I love ’em.

This animation is also in French – with French subtitles. I don’t know French. There is a lot of dialogue, or at least monologue – in French. Which I don’t know.

And I don’t think it matters. The story is independent of the dialogue and is a fun bit of romp.

From the folks at ESMA.

Devils Swing

Think of this as an extra Friday night music video posted a day late. Really it’s just a bonus because I’ve been snowed in for two days and am getting stir crazy.

And I have become quite the fan of Bendy cartoon videos. Great tunes and the 3D ‘neo-retro’ animation is pretty interesting, aside from Bendy simply being a brilliant character. Unsure I’ll ever play the game that spawns and inspires the videos, I’m more of a mmorpg player, but it does look like great fun.

Bla Bla Bla

While there is some mild disagreements on the lyrics to this song, the brilliantly simple line animation perfectly compliments the boppy tune. Great for a Friday night music video.

Animation by Studio Film Bilder, the tune is Bla Bla Bla by Gigi D’Agostino

Crow: The Legend

This is a long piece, nearly 20 minutes, and well worth every moment watching it. The style and animation are geared toward younger audiences, and I think it’s a great way to pass along a Native-American legend.

While all NA tribes have Crow legends, the Rainbow Crow is from the Lenape tribe and recounts the story of the colorfully feathered Crow who’s beautiful voice filled the forest. When the winter spirit appeared and made the forest cold, the animals decided to send an emissary to ask Kijiamuh Ka’ong, the Creator Who Creates By Thinking What Will Be, to think the forest warm again.

This short stars the voices of John Legend as Crow, and Oprah Winfrey as Kijiamuh Ka’ong, as well as other well-known actors. From Baobab Studios.

Big Boom

We got a couple inches of snow here in Seattle since yesterday and, with the preponderance of hills and a tendency to ice up, just getting to work was a slogging chore. While the library won’t be getting many of it’s usual type of patrons today, as a “warming station” – a city-approved spot to get out of the cold – we will get many of our homeless and insecurely housed neighbors stopping in. And that’s ok with me, because that’s how we roll (as they say) here at the library.

So, for those folks, and everyone else feeling the bite of winter’s chill, stay safe, stay warm, and watch through this little window into some heat.

A lonely service robot that is unable to leave his post tends to his duties as he wonders why no one comes in for service any more.

A wonderfully atmospheric short by Brian Watson.

The Gas Clock – Mattias Gordon

Tonight’s Friday Night music video adds some class to the place.

The Gas Clock is a fragment of Goethe’s tragedy where Faust and Mephisto travel in time and space, between the living and the dead, in a maze that they may never find their way out of.

Animated by Mattias Gordon of whom we are a fan! More of his well done animation here.
