Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not, and a sense of humor was provided to console him for what he is. - Oscar Wilde

Animation, Art, and Other Shiny Things
Gotye’s videos are becoming certain favorites around here and I’m pleased to bring you another one.
Directed by Brendan Cook at PictureDRIFT. Character design and animation by Darcy Prendergast at DeePee Studios (and oh yeah wow).
I’m not a fan of rap nor anime, so there’s a bit of irony in being a huge fan of Gorillaz and their music videos.
They have a big library of excellent animated music videos, so you not only get an extra video today, but can be sure you’ll see more of them in the future. The first two, 19-2000 and Dare are my all-time favorites.
The constant re-transformations, in time and consistent with the music, is pretty impressive. It gets a bit over-complex at times, but then doesn’t everybody?
Animation by Equipo
This music video won Reel FX several awards on the festival circuit for its excellent animation. Combining 2d and 3d texturing elements helps create a great gritty, disturbing feel to the video.
See more at Reel FX.
It’s Spring and the woodland animals are getting active, including the ubiquitous Robin. If you’ve ever looked out into the yard and asked yourself “I wonder what it would be like to be a Robin on an acid trip?” then this imaginative short will answer that for you.
From Belgian animator Kristof Luyckx (et al)
(i must warn you, there is some animated suggestive unicorn-on-unicorn action later in the video. i wouldn’t mention it but if i didn’t then someone would be sure to have a hissy fit. i really hate hissy fits that aren’t my own)

(and an extra happy dance for finally finishing a long-form post that will go up tomorrow!)
The mixture of live and animation is striking and well done. It’s also some excellent electronica. Video by Emil Goodman
I love me my electronica and this track from Posthuman is some serious and heavy acid techno. The video, by JimJam Graphics, is as slick and crisp as the beats.
(yes, this is an extra post. it’s saturday and weekends need some massive gravity)
ATTENTION! ROGUE VIDEO ALERT!
I’ve shifted to an every other day posting schedule and what happens? On an ‘off day’ I feel the need to move to some ancient beats, namely Kraftwerk.
The Murph by Rendezvous
Animated by Scott Benson
I was reading a big book on evolution at the time, and wanted to do something involving the progression of life and how it marches on despite it’s fragility. These concepts are in the final video, but it started taking on a life of its own.
You can read more here, and be sure to stop into Mr Benson’s new site at www.bombsfall.com, he’s a talented guy.
