Animation, Art, and Other Shiny Things
Sometimes the road home leads through hell.
Film by Christopher Conforti
Vibrant color and crisp silhouettes deepen the unease in this retelling, and somewhat retooling, of the classic Little Red Riding Hood tale.
From Jorge Jaramillo and Carlo Guillot, music by Manuel Borda.
Clinton Felker over at The Hand that Feeds has re-imagined Star Wars characters in a retro/futuristic feudal Japanese style to excellent effect.
Mr Felker continues to create new art in this series (as of this writing) and sells larger prints at his website.
I’m not a fan of rap nor anime, so there’s a bit of irony in being a huge fan of Gorillaz and their music videos.
They have a big library of excellent animated music videos, so you not only get an extra video today, but can be sure you’ll see more of them in the future. The first two, 19-2000 and Dare are my all-time favorites.
Life is a balance and some things can disrupt that dramatically. This short won the Oscar for animation in 1989.
As of today Aunt Bee and I have been married for 20 years. There are not enough electrons in the intertubes to allow me to list all the reasons she is my one and only and, truth be told, several of them are none of your business. To celebrate I offer a dance – the dance of the Red Crowned Crane.
“A wedding anniversary is the celebration of love, trust, partnership, tolerance and tenacity. The order varies for any given year.” – Paul Sweeney
Being early Tuesday afternoon I think you can now consider yourself up to date
Propelled by Claude Cloutier’s signature drawing style and absurdist humour, this animated short offers an overview of the evolution of life on Earth from rock to human, with some surprising twists in between.

The constant re-transformations, in time and consistent with the music, is pretty impressive. It gets a bit over-complex at times, but then doesn’t everybody?

I’m not generally a fan of this style of animation, but Nekomesha’s little twisted bits drew me in by animating conversations suspiciously like ones that go on in my head. (nsfw language)
You know that’s what your cat is saying…
When your teeth talk like this then it’s time to wash your mouth out…
I bet we all know one of these kinda kids…

This music video won Reel FX several awards on the festival circuit for its excellent animation. Combining 2d and 3d texturing elements helps create a great gritty, disturbing feel to the video.
