Animation, Art, and Other Shiny Things
Visually stunning, this expansive animation follows a plucky little life-form..
In the vastness of space, there’s a a small speck of rock inhabited by the most peculiar lifeforms: Dark little “Globosomes” that start to replicate fast and begin to show signs of intelligence. The film tells the story of the rise and fall of these little creatures. This film is inspired by the special times we’re living in on our own planet. We’re ourselves at the crossroads: Rise to our true calling and explore the universe or perish from the face of a dirty planet. Surely we have culture, science and art but what does remains of these achievements, if you look at our world from a global perspective.

If this short teaches us anything it is that, parents never let you do anything fun and, cats are bad news but mean well.

A poignant twist on the post-human story. Good animation and character design, great telling of a story.

There’s a heavy ‘Tron’ vibe running through this music video by the band Muse. Yeah, that makes for a good FNMV.
This entirely factual documentary comes via the National Film Board of Canada.
This animated short proposes what many earthlings have long feared — that the automobile has inherited the planet. When life on Earth is portrayed as one long, unending conga-line of cars, a crew of extra-terrestrial visitors understandably assume they are the dominant race. While humans, on the other hand, are merely parasites.
Story and animation by Les Drew and Kaj Pindal.
Some missions are dangerous, some just end up that way.
A space bounty hunter travels to a lonely planet to kill a terrible monster.

The fish in the trees cause some consternation among a cave-dwelling tribe.
The animation is well-textured and the characters are well imagined. The story almost devastatingly told with a nuanced hand.
Animated by Jonatan Schwenk.
Odd flora, even odder fauna. Add to that their odd cacophony of life and you almost get an odd little tune – or at least snippets of odd little tunes. The imagination that was poured into this animation is great fun!
Animated by Max Mörtl and Robert Löbel via Kurzfilm Agentur Hamburg (Short Film Agency Hamburg)
Smooth, sensuous, and slightly psychedelic makes this old-school soul track by Breakbot an instant favorite of mine. The animation goes with the flow and makes it a perfect addition to the day-late FNMV collection.
Breakbot and Ruckazoid merge, creating Breakazoid, a cosmic pimp, who distributes his love to humans by taking them across the galaxy on the planet love.
Directed and animated by Olivier Lescot.
