The Henhouse – Elena Pomares

Invisible Loneliness

This film explores the fears and loneliness faced by ‘latchkey children’. A small girl stands alone in the pouring rain; she falls asleep on the sofa. Even in her dreams the little girl finds herself wandering about in a labyrinth of endless doors and walls.

From Playground Studio, directed by Lin Jung-Hsien.

My Strange Grandfather – Dina Velikovskaya

I had a wonderfully eccentric Grandmother. A short, fire-plug shaped woman who taught me how to use the local bus system. Most of the time, though, she herself walked. All over the north end of Seattle you could find her puttering along with her collapsible pull-basket which was often full of books. Sometimes she’d bring home flowers from her walks. Illmerica – Wolfgang Gartner

Alma (Soul) – Rodrigo Blaas

This award winning animation is beautifully done and adds an ominous atmosphere to a tensely macabre tale.

Released in 2009, Dreamworks was quick to begin production on a full-length feature based on this short and, as of June 2012, things are moving right along on it.

The Progress Bar – Guy Collins

I have installed software and OS’s more times than I care to count, both personally and professionally over the last thirty-some years. The ubiquitous progress bar has been much maligned, in my opinion, much like blaming your car’s speedometer when your engine runs badly.

Drag Ropes – Storm Corrosion

This is a track from the self-titled album Storm Corrosion, a collaboration between Porcupine Tree‘s Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth. According to Wilson, this album is supposed to be the completion of a trilogy which includes the Opeth album Heritage and Wilson’s solo work Grace for Drowning. (both excellent albums imho)
