The man was a master. Smooth and mellow like…birdsong. Its no wonder they called him Bird.
I agree with the sentiment, though the story behind the nickname is pretty fun.
Seems he and traveling with a band to their next gig, back roads and such, when they ran over a chicken. Was said that Parker didn’t want the “yard bird” to go to waste, picked it up and cooked it later for dinner. The nickname ‘Yardbird’ stuck and over time got shortened to just ‘Bird’.
